Our Story

“Today I am celebrating 8 years in the United States. I remember very well that first gust of wind that kissed my face when the Chicago airport doors opened. It was a warm but windy day, in which all my dreams, expectations, hopes, and immeasurable naivety fit together

Now, reflecting on these past years, I remember with empathy all the mountains of disappointment, tears of frustration, and personal ego that I had to overcome. As an immigrant woman from Eastern Europe, I faced many cultural and systemic challenges such as loneliness, discrimination, miscommunications due to language barriers, struggles adapting to a new environment, and difficulty acclimating to a new culture with its own customs and social norms.

Navigating career hurdles while trying to build a professional network also proved complicated. As a professional with degrees and many years of work experience in my home country I started with jobs I was overqualified for.

So many experiences and lessons learned! And no matter what happened, when faced with unpredictable twists and turns in my path, I always had someone to lean on: women who either had similar experiences to mine or genuinely cared for the well-being of their fellow female who was struggling to adjust to the new cultural and professional environments.

The idea of “Lithuanian Sisters” was born of inspiration from all the women with big hearts who I have met throughout my journey. Women who chose to be support systems for one another and the larger multi-national community. Women who shared experiences and information, helped solve problems that had arisen and lend each other a helping hand”.
